Silverback Gorilla

Silver back gorilla  Now I will be using another section of the description to find the best way of designing Cornelius.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gorilla

Gorillas are the largest of the primates. They are ground-dwelling and predominantly herbivorous. They inhabit the forests of central Africa. Gorillas are divided into two species and (still under debate as of 2008) either four or five subspecies. The DNA of gorillas is highly similar to that of a human, between 95 and 99% depending on what is counted,[3] and they are the next closest living relatives to humans after the two chimpanzee species. Gorillas' natural habitats cover tropical or subtropical forests in Africa. Although their range covers a small percentage of Africa, gorillas cover a wide range of elevations. The Mountain Gorilla inhabits the Albertine Rift montane cloud forests of the Virunga Volcanoes, ranging in altitude from 2,200–4,300 metres (7,200–14,100 ft). Lowland Gorillas live in dense forests and lowland swamps and marshes as low as sea level, with Western Lowland Gorillas living in Central West African countries and Eastern Lowland Gorillas living in the Democratic Republic of the Congo near its border with Rwanda.[4]   Etymology The American physician and missionary Thomas Staughton Savage and naturalist Jeffries Wyman first described the Western Gorilla (they called it Troglodytes gorilla) in 1847 from specimens obtained in Liberia.[5] The name was derived from the Greek word "Γόριλλαι", (Gorillai), a "tribe of hairy women"[6] described by Hanno the Navigator, a Carthaginian navigator and possible visitor (circa 480 BC) to the area that later became Sier

Middle Age

After some research i found that middle age is after the period of life when you are a young adult but before you reach old age. Some people consider old age to be in your late 30’s to the age of 60 so to be put in a bracket from 38/40-60 would consider as a middle age.
A lot of these men common jobs are things like: police officer, Firemen, doctor, chef, businessman, news reporter

here below is a link to some info i have found helpful on wikipedia.

Health
Middle-aged adults often show visible signs of aging such as loss of skin elasticity and graying of the hair. Physical fitness usually wanes, with a 5–10 kg (10-20 lb) accumulation of body fat, reduction in aerobic performance and a decrease in maximal heart rate. Strength and flexibility also decrease throughout middle age. However, people age at different rates and there can be significant differences between individuals of the same age.
Both male and female fertility declines with advancing age. Advanced maternal age increases the risk of a child being born with some disorders such as Down syndrome. Advanced paternal age sharply increases the risk of miscarriage and many birth defects, including Down syndrome, schizophrenia, autism, decreased intellectual capacity, and bipolar disorder. Most women go through menopause, which ends natural fertility, in their late 40s or 50s. Cannon, Mary (2003-06-26). "Male Biological Clock is Ticking, Too". WebMD Health News. Retrieved 2009-10-16.
In developed countries, yearly mortality begins to increase more noticeably from age 40 onwards, mainly due to age-related health problems such as heart disease and cancer. However, the majority of middle-age people in industrialized nations can expect to live into old age. Life expectancy in developing countries is much lower and the risk of death at all ages is higher.

Character Concept

For my concept I have decided to break down the characters description and look at the key words to get a better idea of how my character will look and behave. I have broken it down in sections and researched the middle age concept then looked at a silver back gorilla.

Character Animation

5. Cornelius – “A middle aged silver back gorilla, the most
Civilized and sensible occupant of the zoo by far.”

So I have decided to use idea 5, a middle age silver back gorilla. Gorillas are one of many animals I admire they have very interesting way of doing things and are also very similar with there features to a human with the structure of there faces. The idea is very straight forward but has many ways of being approached with the fact it is not just a normal gorilla it has a lot of personality with it being civilized and sensible and the fact it has been but in a age bracket of being middle age shows maturity.

here is a briefing of my project of character animation in 3d and will be the first time will be modeling in maya so a challenge i am looking forward to taking.
